Welcome to Flippin!

The Flippin Chamber of Commerce wishes you a warm welcome and invites you to take a few moments to get to know our city.

This Month's Spotlight: MY-TECHS

Todd Clayton grew up in a small south central Arkansas town named Fordyce, home of the Redbugs (the only school mascot in the country with that name). He graduated in 1987 and started using computers long before that, back in 1982 when the Commodore 64 first hit the market. He was fascinated by what computers could do and quickly learned how to program on it and that’s where his love for technology began. After high school, he went to work for the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette where he spent several years and eventually became the District Manager of Circulation for the largest distribution zone in the state. As newspapers began moving online, he decided it was time to return to his passion for computers. After earning several technology certifications, he started applying for IT positions in schools across Arkansas. Newly divorced, and raising his four children he thought working in education would help him stay close to his children’s schooling. That’s when he got a call from Gary Rosa Technology Coordinator for the Flippin School District and was hired in 2011, since then he’s proudly served the Flippin School District as a technician and now as the Technology Coordinator. For the past 15 years Todd and his family have called Flippin home. About 10 years ago, he married his wife who is also from Fordyce and one of his sister’s best friends growing up. She brought two wonderful boys into their family and they are as much a part of the clan as any of his own. Family has always been the center of his life and everything he does with my My-Techs reflects that value.

In 2022 he decided to turn his lifelong passion for helping people with technology into a business and that is how My-Techs was born. “They say if you do what you love, you’ll never have to work a day in your life, and I found that to be true.” Todd may spend all day managing and fixing technology at the school only to go out and do it again in the evening and weekends, but he enjoys and loves every bit of it. His goal has always been simple to provide honest reliable tech-support that people can trust. Todd likes to refer to himself as the technology department for smaller businesses, organizations, and municipalities that can’t afford a full-time IT staff.

Todd has big dreams for My-Techs his immediate goal is to continue growing and eventually hire additional technicians so they can serve even more local businesses and communities. Long-term, he’d love to see My-Techs cover all of Arkansas top to bottom east to west and who knows maybe even expand beyond the state someday. Like anyone who builds something from the ground up, he hopes that My-Techs becomes a legacy that outlives him. He wants his name and his business to carry forward for generations, and someday have his own family manage the company.

From a community standpoint, he would also want to continue giving back by offering technology, workshops, and senior education classes to help residence feel more confident and secure online. Todd recently wrote a book titled The Senior Survival Guide- Defending Against Modern Scams, to help seniors protect themselves from the growing number of online threats.

Plans are to continue working closely with the Flippin School District as the state of Arkansas focuses on strengthening cyber security for our schools.  Todd has received specialized training that helps him protect both students and staff and as technology continues to evolve, so will infrastructure keeping everyone safer online and better equipped for the future.

My-Techs will continue to grow service offerings as they already provide everything from managed cybersecurity and VoIP phone systems to smart home setup and device management. If it is tech related, they will handle it directly or have vetted partners they trust to do the job right so the customer never has to take a gamble on who to call for help.

The easiest way to reach My-Techs is by phone 📞 870.250.2235 or Email 📧 todd.clayton@my-techs.com or Website www.my-techs.com They proudly serve Flippin and the surrounding areas, and just a call or click away for customers. Their mission is simple: provide exceptional service treat people like family and help make technology easier for everyone, whether it’s fixing a computer, setting up a network or helping someone learn something new, they are here to help always with honesty, patience, and a smile.

In closing, Todd added that Flippin has been a wonderful place to live, raise his family, and grow his business. Over the years he’s met so many amazing people and customers that quickly became friends.

Thank you Todd and My-Techs for sharing your story with us and being a valued member of our Chamber. Todd now proudly serves as one of our directors on the Chamber while representing Flippin Schools.

Outdoor recreation highlights our way of life here in Flippin.

Located just minutes from the crystal-clear waters of Bull Shoals Lake and world-class trout fishing on the majestic White River, Flippin is also close to the Buffalo National River Park and Lake Norfork. Flippin truly is a great starting point to fish, fly-fish, float, water ski, swim, scuba dive, wade, gaze down into the waters or up into the hills that surround you. Hickey Park has a giant playground, a basketball court, soccer and baseball fields and a great walking trail that is beautiful and gets you back in touch with nature.

Take a stroll or a ride.

When you're ready to relax and unwind, take a leisurely stroll down the sidewalks in our historic downtown area or the paved park trail, get a haircut, handmade bread or stop in for authentic Tex-Mex. A short walk can also get you to the Old Flippin Jail, Hickey Park and WalMart.

The Chamber would like to take a moment and "Spotlight" one of our businesses and Chamber members- Blackbird Boutique. We recently sat down with Sarah to get her story on her new adventure. We encourage you to stop by and check out this amazing little boutique here in our hometown. We appreciate them being a part of our community and everything they do to help support it.

My name is Sarah Sample and I am the one some people call “the boutique lady.” I help run the Blackbird Boutique that is inside the Flippin Station along with The Pharmacy.

What made us decide to put in a gift store/boutique in Flippin?

My cousins, Lisa & Shane Gardner, were the owners of a pharmacy in our home town of Melbourne for many years. After selling that pharmacy and retiring in January of 2020, they decided somewhere in early 2021 that they actually weren’t quite ready to retire and wanted to put a pharmacy in around Marion County.

They asked me about some different locations they had looked at and I mentioned to them the old Sodie’s building right in the middle of Flippin. They came to look at it and were really impressed with the possibilities of such a terrific structure and location. They purchased the building and began the task of bringing it back to life.

While working on the building one day, Lisa told me she was wanting something else to go in with the pharmacy that would complement the business but also something unique that the community didn’t already have. She mentioned a gift store and asked if I would be interested in helping run it. I was moving to the area full-time late summer of that year so it worked out perfect for me. I knew nothing about running a store but was anxious to learn and excited to bring something to Flippin and Marion County that I hoped would be an asset.

The Pharmacy opened in February of 2022 and The Blackbird Boutique opened its doors the second week of September that year.

It’s been a fantastic experience for me. I’ve met so many beautiful people and developed many special friendships. Hopefully we have brought a little something extra to the community and a few extra smiles when they walk through the doors.

We are located at 109 North 1st street in Flippin, Arkansas.

Located just minutes from the crystal-clear waters of Bull Shoals Lake and world-class trout fishing on the majestic White River, Flippin is also close to the Buffalo National River Park and Lake Norfork. While Flippin has all the wonderful amenities a city should have, it still manages to maintain that much sought after, and ever more illusive, small hometown feeling. It's a wonderful place to raise a family and make friends that will last a life time. We look forward to doing business with you!

Sincerely,

The Members of the Flippin Chamber of Commerce
